The directors are to be on-site mentors when students have questions about life matters, including academics and personal problems, and keep the house in general running order.

It has been reported that state revenues are short. The “allowable growth” of K-12 school districts will not be fully funded by the state. The 2009 Legislature voted to allow schools to increase spending by 2 percent in the coming 2011 fiscal year. When the legislature doesn’t send it’s promised funding to local districts, the districts still have the authority to spend those dollars and to raise the money through increased property taxes. The current legislature’s failure to fulfill promised funding means an increase in local property tax. I thought Gov. Culver and Senator Gronstal have promised to balance the budget with no tax increases? What kind of double talk is this? With prices going up and the number of jobs going down, we don’t need more tax increases. How is increasing our taxes going to help anyone in times like these? What kind of stewardship is this by our elected representatives? To say one thing and then do another? Is this what we voted for?
