  • Stanton inn burglarized, money taken

    STANTON – A burglar took money and plenty to drink in an early-morning break-in at the White City Inn in Stanton Friday. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was called to 320 Broad Ave. regarding an incident that occurred between 12:30 and 10 a.m. Friday. An unknown suspect threw a rock through the window to gain entry and took a small amount of currency and numerous bottles of alcohol, a press release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office stated. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at (712) 623-5107 or Montgomery County Crimestoppers at 1 (800) 432-1001.

    I’ve been suspicious of Senator Grassley’s alliances during this health care reform debate, worrying that he has been representing the insurance companies and not his constituents. Now there’s an amendment in the health care reform bill that is definitively anti-women, in which reproductive rights are jeopardized. Where will Grassley align himself on this one? I will be watching.

Event kicks off holidays in metro

OMAHA – The annual Holiday Lights Festival in Omaha kicks off Thursday, Nov. 26, with the Mutual of Omaha Thanksgiving Lighting Ceremony at Gene Leahy Mall, 14th and Farnam streets, Omaha. Each year, the festival features a brilliant lighting display that spans more than 40 blocks of downtown Omaha, as well as a full season of family-friendly activities through Jan. 10, 2010.
